Professional excursion tour
During WREC 2011 the delegates had the opportunity to partake in technical excursion tours, visiting a number of places of interest in the region. The excursions were highly appreciated, to the extent that two extra tours to the waste-to-energy plant were added during the last two Congress days to meet the demand!
Tekniska Verken – waste-to-energy and biogas production
During this trip we visited two modern waste-to-energy facilities in Linköping.
The first is the Gärstad combined heat and power (CHP) plant, where waste from over thirty municipalities and recycling companies is incinerated for energy recovery.
The second is the Linköping biogas production plant where different forms of biological waste are digested and converted into biogas to be used as a clean vehicle fuel.
Our warmest thanks to our collaboration partner Tekniska Verken for the tours - special thanks for managing to set us up with two extra tours to meet the participants' demand!
Siemens – solar steam turbines
In Finspong we visited the Siemens workshops producing steam turbines and gas turbines. Siemens is the world leader in solar power steam turbines, with zero carbon dioxide emissions. The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. The Steam turbines supplied from Finspong are the SST-900 and SST-700 models sold all over the whole world, mostly for solar power plants. The company's Service operations offer a full service program for both gas and steam turbines. Finspong also delivers complete plants, where gas and steam turbines in combination can produce both electrical power and district heating with sensationally high efficiency.
Lambohov – passive houses
The municipality owned housing company Stångåstaden has built 39 apartments in Lambohov, Linköping, which they let out. Nine out of these houses are labeled passive houses. The focus of this tour is to visit one of these rental passive house apartments.
Linköping University – Energy efficiency
This visit at Linköping University focused at the work with increasing the energy efficiency in one of the university buildings, A-huset (building A). When refurbishing the building the heating/cooling, lighting and ventilation systems were all thoroughly modified in order to increase the energy efficiency. The visit had the form of a workshop, with a description of the building and the measures that have been undertaken followed by a guided tour of the building.
